The Listings: February 22nd – March 1st
Oh, the last week of the month. We know that there has to be more out there than this, so if you know anything, put it in the comments and make sure you put us on your mailing list!
Before we get to the listings, let’s take a quick moment for things a-brewing in the AA:

New this week:
What do you do for short time/sporadic studio space?
And back again from the past:
What can an artist write off as business expenses?
Must be that time of the year… If you have any comments that would help answer these question or just want to contribute to the debate, hop on over to the ArtAnswers page now, and if you have a question yourself, ASK IT!
And now, on with the listings!
Thursday, Feb. 25th
Fleisher Ollman Gallery: Nameless and Reverberating: Luis Romero
For the second month in a row, F.O. presents works with layered paper, thought the content is quite different. As where Tin Wei Lin focused on place, Romero focuses on line, the depth of layers, and color. I don’t know why I mention it, I’m just drawing lines for the sake of excersing my brain I guess, but thought I would share…I’m not completely awake here. Collages by Ray Yoshida will also be on view.
Starts at 6pm, Center City
Philadelphia Photo Arts Center: Lecture & Book Signing: Doug DuBois
Photographer Doug DuBois delivers both a lecture and a book that you can have him sign at PPAC this week. DuBois has photographed his family since 1984, and has captured many a personal woe, including a near fatal accident his father was in. Much of the work is featured in his book, All the Days and Night, which you can buy and then have promptly signed. It’s pretty intense. The lecture starts at 7:30, reception and book signing at 8:30, and, if you are a PPAC member, a special members crit starts at 6pm.
Starts at 7:30. Crane Arts Bldg.
Friday, February 26th
James Oliver Gallery: Play Mate
It’s re-opening time for J.O.G. with new director Niki Bombshell (yes, I had to do a double take as well) who brings Play Mate. The show touches on interactions/mutations of creatures and human, most of the work features animals with human parts or vise versa. Featuring Darla Jackson, Gretchen Diehl, and Sienna Freeman.
Starts at 6pm, ends at 9. Center City

I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

I swear I sent an email…maybe I’m not cool? Darn.
In conjunction with the exhibit, “Works on Paper Rejects” we will be hosting a community meeting on Saturday, February 27th starting at 7pm. Moderators will be Roberta Fallon and Libby Rosof, authors of the real artblog.
We will be discussing juried shows past, present and future in Philadelphia. This will be an event of the face. Half-truths will become truth. Ideas will form into realities. Art will abolish monetary means. Artists will have time to waste. Well, one can only hope. Join the discussion.
Coffee and pastries provided.
Hey this is a blog! Any questions that you would like to add to our discussion? Post a comment. You must use your real name and I will address your question on the 27th, even if it’s fake.
“Works on Paper Rejects” runs through February 27th.

Movie Night
American Astronaut:
A totally awesome movie, with a dash of western, a healthy serving of song, and awkward joke session, d-d-death, d-d-dance, fatherly womanly brotherly love, and everyone’s favorite oil slick: Bodysuit.
