Artist in Wilderness Residency

screenshotThe Wilderness Workshop is a nature advocacy group that fights to preserve wilderness. As part of this mission, the Wilderness Workshop seeks an oil/acrylic/mixed-media painter who shares this same muse, a unique one-week residency in their Aspen cabin among the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. In exchange for the residency opportunity, said artist will be required to donate one work to the organization, plus limited reproduction rights to five or six paintings created during the residency. But one artist nationally per year… is this residency even worth posting? For now, I’ll err on the side of optimism & opportunity. Full details can be found at their website.

What to Submit: Personal Statement, Resume, Six images, Completed application form

Awards:$1500 stipend, travel expenses up to $1000, well-equipped cabin in Aspen for one week, 4WD Vehicle provided if needed

Eastern State Penitentiary Accepting Proposals for 2011 Season & Beyond

2005_5_eastern1With so much artist-centric support hitting the shit-fan this year, continuing seems to be the new ‘new opportunity’. The Eastern State Penitentiary continues to offer artists the chance to propose installations in their uniquely charged prison space. There are a series of orientations for artists interested in submitting a proposal, and you can find the full schedule on their website. These sessions are highly recommended, as they’ll give you a chance to walk through the space with the curators and figure out what may or may not be possible, while getting a gander at the current installations and how visitors interact with them.

What to Submit: 12 copies of a written proposal, an illustration of the site-specific installation, contact information… actually, just check their guidelines page.

Funding: Maximum of $7,500 per project

Deadline: June 15th, 2010. 4 pm. Sure there’s a grace period, but don’t even try to think about it, just get it done on time.

Pterodactyl Call for Curators

curate_front_2Dinosaurs haven’t been this in since you were in 5th grade. I was actually telling someone over the weekend that we should wear our dinosaur gear together, get a nice van decal, and go around town solving crimes.  In comes Pterodactyl, a fairly new exhibition & education & printing space, in Kensington, I believe. They ask for curatorial proposals in any medium for their 2010-2011 season. They stress that shows are not based on credentials, but on merit of idea. You can use their online form to submit a proposal, or shoot them an email at info[at]pterodactylphiladelphia.org. Check their website for full det’s.

What to Submit: Curatorial statement, List of potential artists and related images of artwork

Deadline: Ongoing, with at least two months notice for accepted proposals
